How it works
-
1
Sun times per station
For every departure and arrival airport on every date, civil dawn, sunrise, sunset and civil dusk are calculated once and stored.
-
2
Minute by minute
Each flight is checked from block off to block on. A minute is night when the sun is below the chosen limit at the aircraft's position on the great-circle route.
-
3
Your file, back
Every row stays as it was. A Night time column (HH:MM) is added, blank when a flight had no night. Arrival earlier than departure means landing the next day.

Good to know
Which definition of night should I use?
EASA (Reg. (EU) 965/2012 and Part-FCL) defines night as the period between the end of evening civil twilight and the beginning of morning civil twilight, with the centre of the sun 6° below the horizon. Some authorities and operators use sunset to sunrise, or sunset + 30 minutes. Pick the one your authority uses.
Which files work?
Any logbook exported as CSV that has, for each flight, a date, the departure and arrival airports (IATA or ICAO codes) and the block off and on times in UTC. Column names don't need to match anything: From/To, Dep/Arr, Origin/Destination, Off/On, Out/In and many other spellings are recognised, and if the names are unfamiliar the columns are found from their content. The result shows which columns were used. Dates can be DD/MM/YYYY, DD.MM.YYYY, YYYY-MM-DD or like 10 Jan 2025; times like 19:05, 1905 or 19:05Z. Rows without flight time, such as simulator sessions, stay blank.
How do I pay for the full logbook?
Choose your file, then press Full logbook under the calculate button (or Unlock your full logbook after a free result). You pay $4.99 once on Stripe's secure checkout page and come straight back to your full result, sun reference table included. No account needed.
Do you keep my logbook?
No. Your file is processed in memory and never stored or logged. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
Is the result official?
No. The result is for information only: an estimate based on your file and on assumptions such as a great-circle route. It isn't a certified record and can't serve as or support an official document. You alone are responsible for how you use it, so check every figure against your own records and your authority's and operator's rules. See the Terms of Use.
